THE RESULTS

After sending in the results of hair tubing surveys in the area, we received the good news that a Long Footed Potoroo has been found! The hair tubes were laid out in the coupes surrounding the Big Tree and the survey station. The find needs to be confirmed with the DSE, who are now obliged to undertake their own surveys.

Long footed potoroos are Australia's rarest mammal. The East Gippsland Forest Management Plan reserves 500ha for each potoroo found, up to a certain number. However, there is no gurantee that any habitat will be protected by this find. We will have to wait n see...
